Analysis of advert

Advertising is a way for business or organisations to promote their service through something that people would look at; in this blog post I am going to be explaining the type of structure different adverts has.

Narrative- This is when an advert is telling a story. So this would have a beginning, middle and end. The structure of a narrative advert is that it relates to people.

This advert has no one speaking but the song that is played describes what is happening in the advert. The song for this advert is 'I wanna to know what love is' the reason why the organisation used this is because it is a key strategy because people know and remember, they also used this song because it describes specifically what they are trying to promote, the lyrics link with the song because the couple are going through "heartache and pain" looking for a new house that is suitable for them. on the chorus of the song' I wanna know what love is' that is when they find their prefect home with their app. the reason why they put a begging middle and end is so that it can give the advert a story line. The story for this advert is an average everyday couple looking for the perfect house. The sound on this advert is non-diejetic sound because it doesn't show who is speaking, so in this advert there is an over voice talking about the Halifax app. The most angle shots used in this advert is mainly mid close up & point of view shots this is to show. The colour used is this advert is a dull grey to represent the couple finding it hard to find their ideal home. In my opinion the advert reflects on me because it would help me to find a potential home for myself.
Narrative non-linear- This is a story but it isn't in time order.

The advert I am analysing is 'Guinness evolution' I have chosen this advert because it shows an obvious example of a nonlinear advert. This advert is about people have waited for a long time for Guinness to be made and the advert relates to the name of the drink because evolution has happened in time for the drink. The type of structure used was narrative nonlinear. The key strategies it uses are music and an emotional connection to people because it stereo typically refers to Irish people as they drink Guinness a lot. The types of shots used in this advert are wide angle shots; the wide shot was used at the start of the advert with three men taking a sip of the drink and then went on to use the non diejetic sound which showed cartoons and has the sound of the actual animals. The target audience of this advert is adults and mostly men that drink. This advert is CGI based because it is all animation so it is using graphical images that were first drowned and imported in the computer in order for it to be a smooth film. I think this advert is successful because it relates to what they are trying to sell/advertise. There are no particular shots in this advert because it is computerised.

Realist adverts - this is when the advert uses real people - it tends not to be actors.

The advert I am going to be analysing is nice'n' easy colour blend foam, this advert is about how girls can dye their hair without any mess or dripping of the foam. The song used for this advert is 'girls that want to have fun' by Cindi Lauper. The advert is trying to sell a hair dye that leaves no mess. The type of structure for this advert is realist. the types of shots used in this advert is close up shot and non diejetic sound; close up shots on the person using the product and on the product its self, non diejetic sound was on the over voice telling what the product is and does. The advert the advert is aimed at girls that want to dye their hair.  This advert offers its viewers a solution to their hair problem meaning that girls that are urging to dye their hair with no mess this product will meet their needs. I think this product/advert is successful because it shows what customers want to see and know what is in the product and how to use it.

Anit- realist adverts - this is when he advert is not real

In this advert there is speaking (aliens and over voice) so that way there are some role play in this advert. In this advert there is no music because when they are speaking they are telling the audience indirectly in what the advert is about meaning that they talk within each other about the offer that is being giving by asda. The sound on this part deijetic and part non-deijetic because the part that is deijetic is from the aliens and the non deijetic is from the over voice. The colour used in this advert is most blue but there are natural colours here and there.

Animation adverts – 'confused.com adverts'

The advert is all animated so voices and music is non diejetic sound however in the advert the animation is speaking/singing as it is all based on a song for the company. This advert is about how customers can save money on their car insurance by going to this website to find out how much they can save on their car insurance.

Documentary adverts - , KFC fresh chicken advert

This advert is a documentary which means there is only speaking in it. It has diejetic sound. In this advert the speaker is an employee at KFC so that is why he is able to tell the viewer’s how and why is it successful and he can advertise the new offers and deals they are giving to the customers.

Talking heads advert - Normally a mid-shot of someone talking to the camera - sensodyne toothpaste advert

This is similar to a documentary advert however this advert is an interview based advert which means that they ask questions that customers would ask about the product so getting a professional such as a dentist who uses the product will ensure the customer and viewers that the product works and it is good for you.

Stand along series - BT Wi-Fi: hotspots advert

This advert it about BT this specific advert is only based on their hotspots. This advert is like a story meaning that whenever they are offering something to the customers they would carry it on from the last advert they did; so from the hotsopts they carried it on to the superfast fibrotic broadband. In this advert there is only talking in it and sometimes they would make the advert animated if they are not able to film that specific advert.

Celebrity endorsement adverts - Eva Longoria Sheba advert

This advert is about cat food by using the celebrity endorsement it encourages customers to buy that product because she is famous so they would want to have what she has. And her having this product will make people want to have that product. There is an over voice in this advert however the over voice is her voice also there is music in the background.
